Sourced from a small family-owned vineyard on Atlas Peak, Jean Edwards's 2023 Syrah Philary Vineyard saw approximately 75% new French oak; a total of one barrel, plus a steel keg were made, blended and bottled. It shows some slightly reductive, varietal notes of asphalt and black olives, folding in more blackberry and mocha shadings with additional air. Full-bodied, rich and concentrated, it's velvety, long and licorice-tinged on the finish. This is excellent stuff and reasonably priced for the quality. The trick will be getting hold of some.
